Miami Dade College Foundation
With more than 120,000 students currently enrolled and 2.5 million alum, Miami Dade College (MDC) is recognized as the most diverse institution in the United States. MDC represents 167 nations in its student body. The college is made up of eight campuses and outreach centers that provide over 300 distinct degree pathways, including associate and baccalaureate degrees, career certificates, and apprenticeships.
Shortly after the school’s founding in 1960, the MDC Foundation was chartered to support the school’s vision to create a vibrant community for all by educating Miami-Dade County’s current and future residents. Today, the MDC Foundation raises essential private funds for scholarships, and most students leave with little to no financial debt.

In response to advancements in their fundraising efforts, the MDC Foundation wanted to ensure that their Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT and Financial Edge NXT systems were operating effectively and efficiently. The push called for developing a more robust infrastructure to manage the various accounts and reporting that is required for both donations and grants.
In Raiser’s Edge, they hoped to streamline their campaigns and appeals—knowing that their existing processes were complex. On the Financial Edge side, they wanted to improve their budgeting process by implementing unused features to provide more transparency for their team members. They also needed help with data clean up between the two solutions.
Implementation, Management, & Training
NPact began by reviewing the MDC Foundation’s Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT and Financial Edge NXT systems, then did a deep dive with the team to learn more about their current processes and goals. From there, a project wish list was created. The consultant kicked off the work by implementing and managing the Investment Allocation module in Financial Edge, and providing virtual 1:1 training sessions on allocations and expense management.
To more effectively manage the 2,000+ funds in Raiser’s Edge and associated projects in Financial Edge, NPact also made improvements to the gift entry, reconciliation, and reporting processes. The consultant assisted with mapping the fields between the two systems to prevent duplicate records and ensure a healthy database moving forward. Pleased with the results of their initial contract, MDC Foundation has signed a second contract to continue their work with NPact.
