Why I love NPact
Working in the nonprofit space allows me a sense of fulfillment that I get to help people make our world a better place. I love helping people find new, improved, more efficient ways of working, and I love learning from my clients as much as I love training them. Collaborating with folks in so many different types of nonprofits keeps me on my toes and constantly innovating.
I was raised and went to school in Machesney Park, IL, a small suburb of Rockford about 90 miles northwest of Chicago and about 10 miles from the Wisconsin border. I am the oldest of 3 children, and I’ve raised 2 children of my own in Machesney Park, a daughter and a son. My daughter gave me the treasured title of Oma (grandma in German) in June 2021.
In 1991 I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a Business Administration minor from Rockford University (then Rockford College).I worked in the insurance industry as an underwriter and then in an agent’s office until 2000 when I moved to the manufacturing industry as a sales engineer and then international sales administrator.
During my 15 years in manufacturing, I had the opportunity to become a certified ISO9001 internal quality auditor and to be a Kaizen facilitator for continuous improvement projects in the office and on the shop floor. I worked closely with IT to improve our ERP systems to generate efficiencies in data entry and office processes. During that time, I was also afforded the opportunity to work on a new business system implementation.
My varied experience in manufacturing led me to the role of Director of Systems for the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, where I spent 5 years working as the database administrator, quality manager, and continuous improvement director. I was the liaison between the staff and their third party IT company as well as Blackbaud and Fusion Labs who provided the support for the RE, FE, GE, and Spectrum software. I became professionally certified in the Blackbaud software during this time.
When the opportunity presented itself to make the move to consulting for NPact, I made the move. Working in the nonprofit space allows me a sense of fulfillment that I get to help people make our world a better place.
